QUALIFIED
Stablecolt Hyrum Johnson delivered a stunning second place performance in the Utah State Qualifier XC race (Region 1 – 6A Cross Country XC race) on Wednesday.
Johnson’s worked away quietly and improved steadily over the last two years. According to The Stablemaster (Coach Stazza) Johnson’s working towards a three year goal: “The plan has always been to keep Hyrum healthy and strong. Rather than hammering him in the school system, which always leads to school kids getting injured and dropping out of the sport, we’ve worked steadily and patiently. He’s come along really well off careful, structured, and progressive training—with a long term view.”
Delighted pops, Toby Johnson, told The Stable News: “He looked pretty good. Seems to be peaking nicely!”
Proud pops Johnson went on to say: “He’s beating my high school times! He’s been very dedicated in his training. Most of his hard workouts have been solo. He looked loose and smooth. He didn’t really die at the end, so that’s good. It was a good race for him. One of his better races this season. We are hoping he is peaking just right for a great run at State.”
Super youth Johnson will race in the Utah State x/c Championships next Wednesday (23rd October).
