BETTER KNOW A STABLEMATE—JORDAN WALKER
Jordan Walker, aka @runningfordad, is a relative newcomer to the sport; but his moving backstory has made a meaningful impression on the U.K. running community. Jordan has used his significant social media presence to raise funds for hospice care, a cause for which he is a passionate advocate.
What is your name?
Jordan Walker.
What is your favourite colour?
Blue.
What is your favourite word?
Wentouttoofast.
What is your most marked characteristic?
Loyalty.
What talent would you like to have?
Teleportation, so I’m never late again!
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Running my first marathon after just losing my dad to cancer. I was absolutely gutted that he never got to watch me run it for the hospice that looked after him. I found it hard to fight back the tears when I crossed the line!
Who are your heroes in history?
Eliud Kipchoge has to be up there for what he has achieved in running, and his simple way of life! Such a humble, well-spoken human!
Who are your heroes in real life?
My children!
What is your idea of happiness?
When I’m with my family!
Where would you most like to live?
Anywhere the weather is more reliable and not run by clowns in government!
Why did you start running?
I started running after finding out that my dad had terminal cancer, as I really needed to find something that would take my mind off what was actually going on in my life. My dad was also my best friend; we were very close and even worked together for many years! I owe running so much as it really did, and still does, help me deal with grief!
What does running mean to you now?
Running is my everything, and every time I lace up it’s to honour my dad’s life and to try to inspire my children!
What do you like about Stazza’s Stable?
How good the communication is! My last coach never phoned me and was always late responding—if I was lucky enough to even get a reply!
What is your motto?
Keep showing up!
